Dear Athlete, Congratulations! You are being contacted because you have earned a spot on Team USA for the 2009 Short Course (Olympic) Triathlon World Championships because of your outstanding performance at the 2008 USAT Age Group National Championship.
I can't tell you how many miles I have ridden, run and paddled in order to hear those very words...Back in 2002 as my marriage was falling apart I decided to go to Cancun to see my best Tri friend Christine McKnight race for the Team USA at worlds. I was mesmerized by the entire event. Not only was Chris's race awesome, I got to meet dozens of other people that proudly called themselves triathletes. I watched in awe as super fit chicks came running out of the ocean and jumped on bikes to chase the next super fit chick! At one point while I was there I went for a run and ran into a couple women from Italy who barely spoke English and they were so excited to be there and to participate in something so "big" and international!
I knew before the end of the day that I had to "tri" this sport out as my ultrarunning legs were tired and I needed to do something just for me. Honestly it is all Chris' fault that I even considered trying to qualify for Worlds. I don't even know how I got to nationals in Shreveport the first time. It all went by so fast. Thanks to Matt and Chris I learned a lot those first couple of years and I am so grateful that I did!
5 years later, a new coach, new team, new bike, new job, new man and new attitude...I finally got the email I have been waiting for and I am already making plans for the Gold Coast of Australia!

It looks like it is going to be a family affair so I want to be sure to invite anyone who has never seen me race to travel 25 hours on a plane to come watch. Of course you could come to Colorado to see me race but Australia

Beth: I am so proud of you. You have trained so hard and stayed focused to earn your spot on the 2009 World Championship team. You have transformed yourself into one of the top age-group triathletes in the nation, and all that work paid off for you with your great race in Portland. Pat yourself on the back and just savor this big life victory. You go, Girl! Chris

A big congratulations goes out to you from the Wieck family. We are so happy and proud that you were able to achieve such a huge goal. I bet you waited all of about 30 seconds to respond to that email with a big fat YES!
